There is nothing more beautiful to see than a sight of a child opening a gift and finding  out that what’s inside is the toy they always wanted. Toys can make every child happy. Ask any child if they want something and the only answer they tell you is toys. Childhood is not complete without toys.

Even after childhood when everyone has grown and had kids of their own,  the toys you grew up with will still be the  toys you’ll buy for your children. You want them to experience the same happiness you have experienced when you held and played with your toys  when you were still a kid.

Lego for example has become every kid’s toy. They build boats, houses, spaceships and anything they can think of with it. Lego came way back in 1932  in the workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen. He is a carpenter from Billund, Denmark that makes wooden toys. The name Lego was established in 1934 and expanded to making plastic toys in 1940.

The interlocking bricks that Lego is known today were made in 1949. Lego is also called “Automatic Binding Bricks”.  These bricks are based largely from the patent of Kiddicraft Self-locking Bricks that was released in the United Kingdom in 1947.

The word Lego came from the Danish phrase leg godt which means play well. Their companies motto is kun det bedste er godt nok, in English it means “only the best is good enough”.  Ole Kirk created this motto to remind his employees to value quality which he values the most. The motto is still used in the company today.

In 1954, the company was taken over by Ole Kirk son, Godtfred Kirk. During that time, the Lego Group had a problem with the locking ability of the toy. But by January 28, 1958 the modern Lego brick was patented. Lego bricks that time are still compatible with current bricks today.

The toy has many varieties. The Lego group released thousand set themes which include Wild West, Sea Explorations, and Scuba Explorations and the list goes on.  They also released designs for girls like Belville and Clikits. Lego also has licensed themes for cartoons and film. Star wars, Batman,  Harry Potter and The Last Air bender are some of it.

The Lego Group has expanded into a big company. They branched out to video games. They produce video games like Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, Lego Indiana Jones and many more.

The group also has a Lego Themed Park. They call it Lego land amusement parks. One of their expansions was the retail stores which has 44 branches. The group also has children’s clothing for ages 0-12. The company also produced Lego themed board games. Let us not forget the many films and books they have.

Who would imagine that a wooden toy will be the start of company that gave us memories of our childhood? The toy that will always be a part of our life and our children’s too.
